The Effectiveness of Zingiberis Rhizoma Herbal Acupuncture Therapy and Bee Venom Herbal Acupuncture Therapy on the Poststroke Hemiplegic Shoulder Pain

Abstract

|
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of Zingiberis Rhizoma herbal acupuncture therapy and Bee Venom herbal acupuncture therapy on the poststroke hemiplegic shoulder pain.
Methods: This study was carried out on the 23 patients with hemiplegic shoulder pain. Subjects were divided into 2 groups; ZG(Zingiberis Rhizoma Herbal acupuncture therapy group), BV(Bee Venom Herbal acupuncture therapy group). Manual muscle test(MMT), Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and shoulder ROM were evaluated before treatment, after 1week and after 2weeks.
Results: In MMT and VAS, both ZG and BV had effectiveness, and In ROM, ZG had some effectiveness on abduction and flexion, but BV had effectiveness on all movement. There was no significant difference between two groups in the MMT and VAS.
Conclusions: In the study, Both herbal acupuncture therapy had effectiveness on the poststroke hemiplegic shoulder pain, but bee venom herbal acupuncture was more effective in pain level.
